ABOUT

Monster Bop is a short action game where you need to get to the castle because blah blah reasons.  You'll probably die a whole lot before you make it there.

Gameplay is simple: go right, don’t die. Once you’ve mastered surviving, try to thrive (oof) by going for a high grade on Ye Olde Report Card and then see how you measure up on the leaderboard.

Playable with keyboard (recommended) and touchscreen; controls in-game.

FEATURES

Two unique heroes to suit your playstyle!

Do you like to solve problems by ramming them with your face? (Or maybe just recycling jokes from Goat Simulator MMO?) Then try playing as Lando the Barbarian

FACE ATTACK!

Not your thing? Is your thing throwing large purple comets at small bouncing monsters (which is, you know, specific but sure, no judgment here)? Then try your luck with Razelyn the Spellcaster:

PEWPEWPEW

Five monsters with distinct personalities!

In a game that lasts less than 100 seconds, that's a lot (I hope).

  • Slirm just wants to do his own thing, if you'd let him.
  • Geezle is easily startled and needs to cut back on screen time.
  • Amodius is a caffeinated edgelord who thinks it's still cool to shoot fireballs.
  • Kevin just wants a hug.
  • And Big Red looks like she probably belongs in a different game but shhh be cool.

knock it off amodius no one thinks thats cool

A report card!

That's right: someone finally put the best part of school into a browser game. YOU'RE WELCOME.

Get to the castle and get rewarded with Ye Olde Report Card! Use statistics to see if you had fun or not!

if everyone in the class gets an A we get a pizza party

Two secret modes because I got a little carried away towards the end of development!

Try to discover the secret of unlocking Mayhem Mode with Razelyn or Kevin Mode with Lando!

Are they basically a joke? Yes. Does Kevin Mode still make me laugh after countless QA plays even though I designed it? Also yes.

KEVIN MODE ENGAGE

A heartwarming story that is just one sentence long!

I made this for my niece and nephew as a way to teach myself game design. END OF STORY.

oh thats nice

A chiptune soundtrack that has been stuck in my head for a month!

I wanted to build the game around a song, and after getting lost in the dark recesses of Pixabay I came across a bop* that drove the length, gameplay, and even name of Monster Bop. Now it will be in your head, too, WHICH WAS MY PLAN ALL ALONG.

*i don't know if anyone says 'bop' anymore so sorry for the cringe probably

Stock sprites like you've never seen them before!

I made a shield for the ogre and named him Kevin. Fancy! Full credits in-game!

...AND THE REAL HERO IS YOU, OR SOMETHING

When you make it to the castle you'll discover you had the power inside you all along. You just had to believe in yourself! What a life-affirming game!

But really: thanks for playing my first game. I look forward to making more so that I can later look back on this one and be like “woof, look how much better I got," but I'm pretty happy with how this one came out as a first effort.  I had fun making it and I hope y'all enjoy it too.
